Next, a little about me. You see, if you're like me, you thought credit was just used to get the car, house, and loan. I want to share one of my worst mistakes. I paid $32,000...for a Toyota Camry!!!
Yeah, a 2007 Toyota Camry. It wasn't even a sports edition, just the base model. You're probably asking "Why the hell did you pay so much for a Camry?!"
It's because I didn't understand how credit worked. You know how you got those credit card offers in the mail when you turned 18? Well I got three of them...and went straight to the store to buy throwback jerseys, sneakers, and fast food. All I saw was "free money" and maxed out the cards thinking I'll pay them some day.
The joke was on me. I paid out an extra $17,290 in interest all because I let my credit get screwed up. On top of that, I had to go stay with my parents for a bit because I couldn't get approved for my own place.
Fortunately, I ended up with a huge private bank and started servicing wealthy people...like owners of NFL teams kind of wealthy. It was then I noticed a common theme. These people used credit to acquire tons of assets to generate their wealth. None of my clients cash ever exceeded 10% of their net worth.
